Japan’s capital city, Tokyo offers something for everyone–geeks to business-people to Harajuku girls. Tokyo bursts to the brim with coffee, food, quirky neighborhoods, and history.

Food:

  1. Imakatsu (Roppongi)–a really great katsu restaurant in Roppongi
  2. Savoy (Azabujuban)–the best pizza!
  3. Onibus (Nakameguro)–great pourover
  4. No. 8 by Bear Pond Espresso (Shibuya)–really great espresso
  5. Ichiran–ramen chain with great ramen and no human interaction
  6. Ippudo–ramen, a chain
  7. Streamer Coffee Company–craft coffee
  8. Turret Coffee (Chuo)–good coffee shop near Tsukiji
  9. Hare no hi (Chuo)–a restaurant for fresh donburi in Tsukiji
  10. February Coffee (Asakusa)–small cafe with good breakfast set
  11. Momi & Toy’s (Asakusa)–crepe truck
  12. Harajuku Gyoza Lou (Harajuku)–amazing gyoza
  13. Bearded Papa Cream Puffs (Harajuku)–different from the ubiquitous crepes of Harajuku
  14. Sakuratei (Harajuku)–okonomiyaki shop, not bad
  15. Blue Bottle–from New York but good coffee
  16. Star Kebab Akiba Terrace (Akihabara)–great kebab stand, cheap
  17. Gelateria Marghera (Azabujuban)–decent gelato shop
  18. Ueshima–good coffee chain throughout the city

Activities:

  1. Tokyo Tower–not that expensive and great views of the city
  2. Shinjuku–a popular neighborhood for its restaurants and activity
  3. Jakotsuyu Sento (Asakusa)–bathhouse
  4. Sumidagawa–river park that’s nice for a walk or run
  5. Sensoji (Asakusa)–beautiful temple
  6. Shibuya Crossing
  7. Yoyogi Park (Shibuya)
  8. Meiji Shrine (Yoyogi Park)
  9. Harajuku–walk around, pop into shops, get a crepe
  10. Unby Store (Harajuku)–cool store but overpriced
  11. Mori Art Museum (Minato)–don’t miss the city view
  12. Imperial Palace East Gardens (Chiyoda)
  13. Akihabara–explore and play an arcade game
  14. Super Potato (Akihabara)–retro arcade
  15. Hey Hirose (Akihabara)–intense, modern arcade
  16. Cat Cafe Mocha (Akihabara)–cat cafe!
  17. Tokyo National Museum (Ueno)
  18. Ueno Park
  19. Toshogu Shrine (Ueno Park)
  20. Wagashi or soba making workshop
  21. Odaiba Onsen
  22. Tsukiji Market–famous fish market. Worth visiting but packed with tourists
  23. Aoyama Cemetery–really beautiful, peaceful place in the middle of the city. Great for hanami
  24. Meguro River–beautiful hanami spot in a nice neighborhood
  25. Chidorigafuchi Park–famous hanami spot with the moat and boats
  26. Yasukuni Shrine–controversial shrine that honors the Japanese killed in war. Visit and think carefully
  27. Azabujuban–great neighborhood for a nighttime stroll

  3. Tokyo Disneyland
  4. Disney Sea–unique to Japan. Good rides, decent park food, long lines
  5. Narita–a nice place to stroll through before catching a flight
